This past Saturday was Bear’s birthday party. Her birthday is next Friday but that is the night of her school carnival and the following day is Race for the Cure.
Bear decided that she wanted to have a Halloween Birthday Party and have all the kids dress up. Hubby and I thought to ourselves “Cha-Ching” that will be fun and not a lot of “$$$”!
We got Halloween Party invitations and added the line Birthday to them and sent them out to 16 kids. The list started out smaller but Bear kept wanting more and more and Hubby said it is not costing that much so go ahead.
We did not plan on me jacking up my knee so I had to rely on Hubby to do all the house cleaning, get the party stuff ready, cook the pizza and keep me from going nuts all while he was trying to keep an eye on the HOG game. I also had to rely on my friend Stacie to help me make the cake and mom to help with some of the setting up.
I am an OCD Control Freak and sitting back letting everyone take care of my daughter’s birthday party was hard. I felt worthless and useless and a little embarrassed. I am the one usually taking care of everything. By the time the party actually started I was a basket case.
For the party we bought HUGE bags of candy and arranged it with some of our neighbors to let the kids go trick-or-treating. So that was eight houses and they got two pieces of candy each. Not to shabby!
You should have seen the kids take off to go trick-or-treating, they acted like they have never been before and they absolutely loved it. I got to see the little angels as they trick-or-treated my wonderful husband rolled me up and down the street in his grandma’s wheelchair.
We found a game called “Mummy wrap” from one of She’s Crafty blogs. The idea was to divide the group into teams and they would wrap up one person with a roll of toilet paper to look like a mummy. WORD OF ADVICE, IF YOU PLAY THIS GAME DO NOT USE CHEAP TOILET PAPER – IT TEARS! But, the kids seemed to enjoy it and giggled with delight.
We bought a bunch of candy corn and poured them in a jar for kids to guess how many.
We found another game where you toss a penny into a pumpkin but we forgot to play that one. OOPS!
Bear opened her gifts and the kids tore into some cupcakes and party was over. Nannie, Papa, Uncle Brian and Aunt Opal were still there when Bear announced that she wanted to use all of her birthday money, that she just got, to take us out to eat. Hubby and I told her to keep her money and she said “NO, I WANT TO BUY DINNER.”
Later that night she told me and Hubby that she wanted to buy us dinner so we would not run out of money and be poor. She obviously has heard Hubby and I discussing the bills that are steadily coming in from my knee accident. Such a sweetheart, takes after her Nannie!
