Growing up my mom and dad would take us on vacation several times during the summer. We would take a “big” trip every other year to Destin or Panama City and to Disney World a couple of times. The other years we would go camping a lot and go to Branson.
So when Brad and I first got married and I started planning all sorts of vacations he told me that my parents had ruined me. I don’t think they ruined me at all. Some of my best memories of growing up are during our various family vacations.
Hubby and I have been to Branson several times (I love Silver Dollar City), various beaches in Florida, Disney World at least four times and we have been on two cruises - just to name a few.
After Bear was born the vacations have been close to home or to visit relatives. Our one “big” trip where we did not stay with relatives was to Disney World when Rebecca was five-years-old. She was sick the whole trip and it was not at all what I had planned. Read about that trip here.
We are planning on taking her again next year and hopefully she can enjoy herself more.
Rebecca loves Silver Dollar City so much that we bought season passes for Christmas last year. We are going during spring break and I can not wait to go. Rebecca’s first trip to Silver Dollar City was when she was a toddler. She loved being in the stroller and watching all the people. Ever since then, she loves to go back.
In June, before school is out, we are taking a week long trip to Navarre Beach in Florida. I can’t help that snow days are going to make the school year longer. We have paid and we are going. I thought the school district had built in snow days.

Trip to California to visit Brad's relatives. Notice the bird on my head. It pooped in my hair seconds after this photos was taken.
Bring on spring and summer, I am ready for vacation time!

Sounds like fun! When I was growing up, all of our vacations were trips back to Kentucky to see the family. When we still lived in KY, we might have a quick trip to Nashville for Opryland, but that was about it.
I don’t think we took a non-family vacation until I was a teenager and we drove up to Canada. The next year, the day before we were headed out West to the Badlands (oh, that is every teenager’s dream vacay) I managed to get a last-minute invitation to an AEGIS acting camp. I was saved!
We didn’t go on a lot of trips when I was growing up but the few we did made for really good memories. I bet Bear will cherish all the memories from the fun family outings y’all take – even the simple ones to the park.
